About Book

This book is an ethnographic study that examines how Muslims in Java, Indonesia, balance modernity and tradition. It focuses on the role of Islamic schools (pesantren) in shaping identities and responses to globalization, nation-building, and civilizational conflicts. It offers insight into the strategies used by the community to adapt to these challenges through education and leadership in the public sphere​ .
